Microsoft Points have been a thorn in our sides for a while now. Maybe they made sense back in the day, when Microsoft was literally making up the rules of internet connected gaming as they went along, but today, with Steam, PSN, eShop, the App Store, and Google Play all using real currency, Microsoft’s Points system for Xbox Live, which was already rather contrived to begin with, just makes no sense, and comes off as a rather transparent money grab scheme.

Well, good news for all of us, then. After literally years of speculation, Microsoft have confirmed and announced the demise of Microsoft Points in favor of a real currency on Xbox Live, ahead of the Xbox One launch at their E3 conference today. The change will be effective on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage of E3 as it comes.
