Microsoft has reported massive revenue and profit this quarter. The Entertainment and Devices division, however, was down 11% year-on-year, and they have blamed the Xbox 360’s lower sales for that.

The division contains a lot of other units but it’s mainly about the Xbox, and the LIVE revenues are said to be very promising offsetting the loss created by the low sales.

“Xbox 360 platform revenue decreased $1.1 billion or 29%, due mainly to lower volumes of consoles sold and lower video game revenue, offset in part by higher Xbox LIVE revenue,” they said.

They shipped 5.9 million Xbox 360’s and considering they had overshipped last year with 8.2 million, this isn’t too surprising. The R&D expenses have increased by 25% to $98 million, which is kind of obvious.

They posted $21.46 billion in revenues and a profit of $6.28 billion. The next-gen Xbox is expected to be revealed this year.
