'Nintendo has always been innovative.'

Although Nintendo has taken a thorough beating in the console market in the last few years, at their best, they are a force to be reckoned with, as they wreck the competition entirely- just ask Sega, or, more recently, ask Microsoft and Sony what happened last generation.

So it makes sense that both, Microsoft and Sony, want to be prepared for whatever Nintendo is preparing with the NX- especially since, if even half the rumors are true, it will be a machine to be reckoned with. Speaking to VentureBeat about the NX, and how Microsoft is planning on countering it, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg said, “I’m not sure what Nintendo’s doing. I hear the same rumors and stuff that you do. I guess we’ll react to that when we know more. Nintendo’s always been innovative. They’ve always differentiated in their own way. They’ve always danced to their own tune, if you will. It wouldn’t surprise me if they do their own thing when the time is right. What they’ve done is unique and different. How they’ll compete with us remains to be seen.”

It is actually very surprising that Nintendo has managed to contain leaks over what the NX is for so long- while we know roughly what form factors it will have, as well as its power levels (at least as powerful as a PS4, probably more), we don’t know what it is, other than the fact that it is something completely new. it makes me excited- the last time Nintendo was this secretive, we got the Wii.

The Nintendo NX is rumored to launch in 2016.
