During their quarterly financial conference call, Microsoft provided some insight regarding their future plans for their console, the Xbox One. Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella and Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood stated that the company will continue to pursue opportunities to expand their role in gaming.

Satya Nadella stated that Microsoft had “one of the best quarter in gaming with strong revenue performance and record levels of engagement.” The company is enjoying success with their services such as Xbox Live, Mixer, and Game Pass.

Nadella also went on to say that the company will “continue to invest in the platform enhancing the cloud services with AI capabilities for developers to quickly build and monetize their games across PC, console, and mobile.” Microsoft has also enjoyed success with Sea of Thieves  as it helped to drive gameplay both on Windows 10 and Xbox One and also contributed to 10 million hours viewed on services including Mixer.

Amy Hood explained that results in the gaming business were “better than expected.” Operating expenses increased by 5% since the company invested in engineering for gaming. Overall, it has been a good quarter for Microsoft and we’ll have to wait and see how well their strategy works in the future.
