In the days leading up to the launch of the Xbox One X, Microsoft Executives including Marketing Senior Director Albert Penello had advertised the console as having the most number of launch titles ever for any console. This is obviously a bold claim to make, and some questioned this claim over at Resetera forums.
Albert Penello however clarified that he was specifically talking about titles that were available to play on the console on the day of the console being launched. He goes on to say, “In every console launch I have been a part of, the number of “launch titles” has always been a metric. As you know, I was doing a number of interviews prior to launch, and at the top of many lists of questions was “how many launch titles will you have that take advantage of the new console?” In fact, many people leading up to launch were suggesting that developers would not heavily support this console. So my assumption based on the number of questions I was getting was that the launch title metric was still important.”
He clarifies then that it is not the total titles available on the console that he was talking about, but rather about launch titles specifically. When one user later stated that enhanced titles cannot be counted as launch titles, Penello disagreed and pointed out that the industry had used the same metric during the launch of the PS4 Pro as well. As of now, the Xbox One X has 67 titles available to play. It seems that the whole confusion arose out of a misunderstanding of what the executives meant by the use of the term “launch title.”
