90- Road Rash (1991)
For an 8 bit game, it was visually stunning. There were vast swathes of terrain running from the country to the city, with people, cows and cops drawn and animated differently. The battles on the bikes and utter sensation of speed, combined with a smooth frame rate, made the game stand out.
