92- Commander Keen (1991)
Id software was born during this time and inspired by Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros., bought out thefirst 2D side-scrolling game for MS-DOS with Commander Keen. It featured an overhead map when Keen entered a cave. With the game looking so good, it stands out the most for being the result of a younger breed of designers, who didn’t have degrees in computer science but enough passion and DIY knowledge to compete with the best.
