In addition to its four player co-operative campaign mode, Minecraft Legends also has an engaging 4v4 (maximum; 3v3 minimum in public match-making) multiplayer experience that can be fairly complex to play and emerge victorious. Some of the mechanics are slightly different from the campaign, and gameplay requires coordination with team mates far more than other multiplayer RTS games. In order to dominate the PvP game mode in Minecraft Legends, you’re going to need these tips, tricks, and tactics.

The Basics

Specify teammate roles explicitly before you even begin, as every team member should know exactly what is expected of them in the scheme of things, be it resource gathering, defense construction, scouting, or farming enemies. There is a symbiosis between allied players that must be maintained for maximum efficiency, such that bottlenecks don’t occur and have a cascading effect on the entire group. There can be some overlap between roles, such as the designated miner also handling base defense construction, allowing two players to undertake reconnaissance instead of one.

Good communication goes hand-in-hand with good teamwork, and team mates bickering or talking over each other should be a no no at all times. Droning on over the voice chat when there is important information to be conveyed like resource location or enemy position is more often than not what gets teams nuked by opponents. Divided you fall.

Remember that the counts for Troops, Allays, and Supplies are all shared between allies.

Maximize mining basic resources early on, because while Wood and Stone are crucial for expansion and construction, you are limited to just three Gather Allays per player in PvP, and can neither recruit more nor hope to find any in Chests like in the campaign. Once deployed on a mining task, they cannot be given further instructions until they strip the indicated zone completely. Make an informed choice on the value of a particular mining location by observing the number in the bottom left corner as you hover the mining order cursor over various spots in the world. Micromanage the Allays so that there’s never any downtime once they’ve completed strip-mining an area.

Build an arrow tower or two as soon as possible. These will hold off any initial probes of your base, as well as Piglin incursions.

Scout specifically for the NPC Piglins and their bases. Not only are they a source for Prismarine, which could just as easily fall into the enemy team’s hands, but the bases themselves can also be a thorn in your own team’s side, weakening your defenses with random assaults. So deny the enemy a resource, as well as unintended aid from NPC armies.

Chests in the wild can give you much needed resource boosts, both basic and advanced, and a significant leg up against the enemy team, especially if they’re relying on gathering their resources with just Allays. There also appear to be far more Chests in PvP than in the campaign. Actively try to deny the enemy any Chests that are located in their proximity, if you’ve already located their base.

Acquire another mount. While the default Horse mount is just fine and has limitless stamina, it remains the weakest of the four currently available mounts in Minecraft Legends. Keep a sharp lookout for other mounts while doing reconnaissance as they can be found scattered about on the map just like in the campaign. If you’re lucky enough, there might be a spawn right near your base, and not necessarily in their native biomes either, unlike the campaign where only certain zones guarantee the chance of a mount spawning. A good mount can be the difference between victory and defeat, depending on your playstyle. Regal Tiger lends itself to speedy reconnaissance as well as hit and run strikes. Big Beak can traverse difficult terrain, and is also good for a scout. And Brilliant Beetle can scale enemy defensive structures, negating their value entirely.

Being procedurally generated, the maps will never be the same, and your team will have to evolve and adapt to bad spawns or a lack of useful resources in the starting zone.

Even though this is a PvP mode, don’t forget to farm the NPCs. Piglins are your primary source of Lapis and Prismarine, both of which are necessary resources for all manner of advanced upgrades.

Build an Improvement Hub sooner rather than later. Unlocks advanced resources like Coal, Iron, and Redstone, as well as the Firsts, and a critical siege weapon in the form of the Redstone Launcher that might help make quick work of the enemy Well of Fates.

Keep in mind that Wellhouses allow you to Fast Travel back to base. In the inevitable event of an attack on your home base, your presence there can make all the difference, even if you already have defensive structures like arrow towers in place.

Advanced Tactics

Scout as much of the enemy base as possible. Knowing the layout beforehand instead of riding in blind and headfirst into defensive towers, will get your forces annihilated, especially somewhat vulnerable mobs such as Creepers. It can also help determine which mobs to bring in the first place, with Skeletons ideal for walled-in bases, and Cobblestone Golems a perfect match for building demolition.

Build Forward Bases. These are just mini-bases with relatively cheap structures but also some utility such as Spawners. Construct them along the most obvious route between previously scouted enemy bases and your own main base, including just outside your own perimeter walls. These will serve both to replenish your forces closer to the battlefield as they get killed in combat, but also as an early warning system when the enemy inevitably marches on your own home base and is distracted into attacking these decoy structures.

If you catch an enemy player out in the open, you should definitely target them for attack, as both they and you can be killed, even if only temporarily.

As you expand the defensive ring around your base, create labyrinths and bottlenecks, so that the enemy gets bogged down in congested paths on their way to your primary structures. If they can be caught in the overlapping crossfire of defensive towers, then all the better for it. Build a Masonry as well, which will permanently upgrade walls, gates, and towers to stone thus significantly buffing their hit points and raising their overall durability.

When assaulting the enemy base, keep in mind which structures confer bonuses to building HP, and target them first, such as the carpenter and improvement hubs.

Your enemy base siege assault force should consist of the best mobs and tools to deal damage to buildings. Creepers, Cobblestone Golems, and Redstone Launchers. Be sure to stockpile Redstone early on. As a matter of fact, you should do so even if you don’t go the Redstone Launcher route, simply to deny the enemy the opportunity. Be concerned if you receive any indication that the enemy has acquired the Redstone improvement, as that means a Redstone Launcher could well be fielded against you.

Minecraft Legends allows unrestricted crossplay support on all platforms where the game is available. Finding teammates across PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch should be no problem at all and needs nothing more than a free Microsoft account. Private games need players to be friended first in order to invite each other. So, make allies, and win battles!
