Minecraft sold over 4 million units in December

Sales figures for Minecraft across all platforms in the month of December have been released, and Mojang reveals that the game sold 4.2 million units in the final month of 2012.

This brings the total sales of Minecraft in 2012 to 15 million units, which is really, really impressive.

The studio reveals that the most popular and highest selling version of Minecraft in 2012 was the 4J Studios developed Xbox 360 version, which sold 5,002,370, outselling the PC version by 20 per cent. 325,591 of these 5 million copies were bought between Christmas and New Year.

4,177,843 units of Minecraft sold on the PC and Mac in 2012, with 70,808 of those purchases coming on December 25th, Christmas Day, and 241,845 total sales coming between December 24th-30th.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition’s collective sales across Android and iOS devices were 5,899,727 units. 283,939 were bought on Christmas Day, and a total of 706,419 in the Christmas week.
