Following up on updating its older titles with DRM, Capcom has now released an update for Monster Hunter Rise, bringing the same DRM—Enigma Protector—to the latest game in the franchise. Just like last time, the update has been quite controversial, however, with players having reported that the addition of the new DRM had broken the game’s Steam Deck compatibility.

Capcom has since released a new patch for Monster Hunter Rise, fixing the game’s Steam Deck compatibility issues. The damage has been seemingly done, however, as the game’s user reviews on Steam have taken a massive nosedive. At the time of writing, the game’s most recent reviews sit at an aggregate of Mostly Negative with 3,395 reviews being taken into account.

Going by these reviews, it seems that several players took umbrage with the update breaking the game’s Steam Deck compatibility, as well as the addition of new DRM.

Capcom had released a similar update for Resident Evil Revelations earlier this month, adding the Enigma Protector DRM to the older horror title. The update sparked a similar outcry, with players stating that the DRM has worsened the game’s performance. Capcom has released the DRM to several of its titles, including more recent releases like Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection and Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective.
