In recent weeks, there have been some rumours of an upcoming new Monster Hunter game that will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch and will be built on a modified version of the RE Engine. Reports have said that details on the game will be arriving before TGS 2020, which kicks off later this month. Now, a leak on Reddit may have potential revealed some interesting details on the game.

As per the leak, the game is going to be called Monster Hunter Rise, and will release exclusively for the Switch worldwide on March 26, 2021. The game will supposedly be heavily inspired by Japan in terms of its setting, similar to Monster Hunter Portable 3rd.

The leak mentions some new monsters that will be featured in the game. The flagship new monster will supposedly be called Magaimagado (at least in Japan), and will “a heavy looking demon-like Zinogre with purple fire and a spear tail.” Other new monsters in the game are mentioned as a furry variant of Jaggi with a scythe at the end of its tail, and “a platypus Dodogama.” Meanwhile, returning monsters will allegedly include Arzuros, Nerscylla (possibly Shrouded), and Tobi Kadachi.

Meanwhile, some interest gameplay details are also mentioned in the leak. Locations in the game are going to be very open, and players will be able to climb pretty much any surface. There will also be a grappling hook that can be used to grapple onto anything – supposedly even thin air – and can also be used in combos. Finally, in addition to a Palico, players will have another companion that will also aid them in combat and that can also be ridden- a dog-like creature called Palamute.

Now, I know what you’re thinking- a Reddit leak from a random poster? Most likely fake, right? Well, ordinarily, that seems to be the case more often than not, but there are a few things to consider here. For starters, the user who posted this actually seems to have a very solid track record- a look at their posting history shows that they’ve accurately leaked information for a lot of games, including Pokemon Sword and Shield, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Diablo 4, Persona 5 Scramble, and Byleth coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

On top of that, Niko Partners senior analyst Daniel Ahmad recently took to Twitter to retweet Nintendo of America’s recent announcement of the upcoming Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase, and said, “Don’t forget to rise early for this one.” That seems important here, because as per this leak, the game’s name is Monster Hunter Rise.

A recent report said that Monster Hunter for the Switch was on track to launch in the current fiscal year (before April 2021), and that an announcement was “right around the corner.”

That said, until this is confirmed officially, it’s best to tread carefully and take this with a grain of salt. If this is indeed to be announced at the Direct, we’ll find out for sure not long from now. Stay tuned for more updates.
