Turn-based tactics game Moonbreaker has seen its first major update since its early access release. The update, along with bringing changes to its gameplay, also revamps the game’s business model.

In response to the player feedback since the game’s release, developer Unknown Worlds has removed Pulsars—the real-money currency—from Moonbreaker, and has stated that it will never come back to the game in the future. As a result, the in-game store is now disabled, and players who bought Pulsars are being refunded.

The Booster Boxes have also been removed from the game, and all units are now unlocked automatically with the base game. New units added in the future will also be unlocked for players automatically on release.

Players can now play the game to earn the new currency, Sparks, which can be spent on upgrading a unit’s rarity, which is essentially just a cosmetic upgrade and doesn’t impact the core gameplay in any way.

On the gameplay side of things, the changes to Moonbreaker are meant to better align the game with its tabletop miniature-battling counterparts. Players now start a match with all crew available, removing the concept of “reinforcement” and “drawing”.

The game’s roster size has also seen a slight reduction down to 8 units from the original 10, not counting a Captain. Ship Assists have also been reworked to offer better utility.

Moonbreaker is available on PC as an early access game.
