Mortal Kombat 1 Announcement Being Teased for This Week

On the back of plenty of teases and leaks, Mortal Kombat boss Ed Boon seems to be hinting at an imminent announcement.

NetherRealm Studios has been teasing the next game in the Mortal Kombat franchise for a couple of weeks now, and courtesy of leaks, information on the game has already started emerging, pegging it as a reboot called Mortal Kombat 1. Many have been expecting an announcement in the very near future, and sure enough, it seems like one is coming as early as this week.

At least that’s what Mortal Kombat boss Ed Boon has been suggesting. Taking recently to Twitter, Boon recently published a tweet saying, “This week should be fun,” accompanying it with a dragon emoji, which, of course, is imagery series fans will be very familiar with.

Many (ourselves included) had previously speculated that Mortal Kombat 1 could be unveiled at the rumoured upcoming PlayStation Showcase, though with that allegedly set for next week, it remains to be seen how things play out. It’s possible that the game gets announced this week, with a bigger gameplay blowout coming during the showcase.

As per recent leaks, Mortal Kombat 1 is targeting September launch and will be releasing for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC, with a price tag of $70 on current-gen consoles. The game’s post-launch DLC will allegedly include the likes of DC’s Peacemaker, The Boys’ Homelander, and Conan the Barbarian.
