From the new Kameo fighters mechanic to its decision to fully commit to the multiverse trope, Mortal Kombat 1 divided opinion within the series’ fanbase for a number of reasons, though the brutal fighter has nonetheless enjoyed impressive sales.
WB Games and developer NetherRealm Studios have announced that Mortal Kombat 1 has sold over 4 million units worldwide. The fighter crossed the milestone in under a year, having launched in September of 2023. As of January, it had sold over 3 million units worldwide.
Next month is likely to be another big one for Mortal Kombat 1, with WB Games and NetherRealm set to release a large-scale expansion in the form of Khaos Reigns. In addition to new story campaign, the expansion will also bring six new playable characters and the return of Animalities.
WB Games has also released a new trailer showcasing Cyrax, one of the expansion’s six new characters. Check out the trailer through here.
Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns launches on September 24 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
