It was confirmed last year that Mortal Kombat 1 would receive story DLC similar to Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, while much more recently, director and series co-creator Ed Boon teased an imminent announcement of the same at San Diego Comic-Con. Sure enough, the expansion has now been announced.

Dubbed Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, the story expansion will be set after the events of the base game, bringing a major new threat from another alternative timeline in the form of a ruthless Titan Havik, after which it once again falls to Liu Kang to rally the heroes of his New Era. Several fan-favourite characters are set to return, including the likes of Noob Saibot (who’s Bi-Han behind the mask), Cyrax, and Sektor. Check out the trailer below.

In addition to a new story expansion, Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns will also include a Kombat Pack 2, which is set to bring six new DLC fighters. Meanwhile, the expansion’s release will also coincide with a free update that will add new animal-based Fatalities known as Animalities. Read more on that through here.

Pre-orders for the expansion are live now, with bonuses including four skins in the form of Wedding Scorpion, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Sub-Zero, Empress Mileena, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Noob Saibot.

Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns launches on September 24 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It will retail for $49.99 on all platforms except the Switch, where it will be sold at a price of $39.99.
