The Secret of Monkey Island
Many of you veteran gamers may recall that in the early 90’s games often came with manuals and sheets of paper which had authentication codes to verify that your game was legit and not pirated. However one of the most famous of these anti-piracy measures is The Secret Of Monkey Island’s “Dial-A-Pirate” wheel.
When it was time for the copy-protection check, the game would display a picture of a pirate and a tropical backdrop where the said pirate was hanged. Players would have to rotate the wheel to create the face and then enter the corresponding date. However this tool was later deemed quite irritating and very time consuming and ultimately fell out of favor.
