Player First Games’ MultiVersus is ending its open beta on June 25th. In a new blog post, studio co-founder and CEO Tony Huynh revealed the platform fighter is targeting an early 2024 launch. The open beta will be removed from sale starting on April 4th. Gleamium is also being removed from purchasing on the same day.
“Throughout our Open Beta, we’ve been working hard to build the best gameplay experience, and we appreciate all of the inspiration you’ve given us. Our Open Beta has been an important learning opportunity for us and a stepping stone to the next phase of MultiVersus.
“We know there’s still a lot of work to do. As a result, we have a clearer view of what we need to focus on, specifically the content cadence of new characters, maps and modes to give you more ways to enjoy the game, along with updated netcode and more matchmaking improvements. We’ll also be reworking the progression system based on your feedback and looking at new ways for you to connect with your friends in the game.”
Along with pausing updates, the beta will be taken offline, meaning all online modes and features won’t be accessible. The Lab is still available for training purposes offline, and your characters and cosmetics are still usable in local matches. While Huynh acknowledged the disappointing nature of the news, he assured players that “MultiVersus will be back.”
All progress and content will also carry over into the full launch, with a “variety of new content, features and modes” planned for the latter. The Season 2 Battle Pass will end on June 25th, with daily missions available the same day. However, Weekly Seasonal Milestones won’t refresh after March 31st.
The same refund policies are still in effect, so players shouldn’t expect any due to the open beta’s end. Stay tuned for more details on the full game closer to launch.
