The story mode looks more grounded than last year this time.

2K Games shared a brand new trailer for NBA 2K19 showing off the MyCareer mode (guess what the mode is about) for this year’s entry. Unlike with last year’s career mode, MyCareer in 2K19 seems to be more grounded and more realistic- they seem to have taken some leaves out of EA and FIFA‘s The Journey modes on this one.

The game itself looks great, with very high production values. Before they became infested with unnecessary microtransactions, NBA 2K games were frequently cited as among the best annually updated sports games, and that core base still remains here. I can only hope that unlike last year, this year’s game won’t go so overboard with monetization. Then again, last year’s game was the most successful entry in the series yet, so maybe the message didn’t get through to 2K and Take Two. That seems to be the way of all sports games in general.

NBA 2K19 launches for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC this September.
