Publisher 2K and developer Visual Concepts have revealed details about this year’s iteration of the yearly NBA 2K franchise. Appropriately titled NBA 2K27, the game is coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4th, with advanced access for Deluxe and Ultra Edition owners starting on August 28th.
It will feature San Antonio Spurs’ center, Victor Wembanyama, on the standard edition, Indiana Fever’s guard, Caitlin Clark, on the Deluxe Edition, and Chicago Bulls legend and three-time NBA All-Star, Derrick Rose, on the Ultra Edition as cover athletes. The standard edition is priced at $69.99, the Deluxe Edition at $99.99, and the Ultra Edition – which will have limited availability until September 6th – at $149.99.
The Deluxe Edition of NBA 2K27 will include 100,000 VC, 25x 6 types of Skill Boosts, 25x 3 types of Gatorade Boosts, a Victor Wembanyama Jersey, a Caitlin Clark Jersey, and a 2-hour double-XP Coin for the MyCAREER mode. MyTEAM fans can look forward to the full ’27: Series 1 Team Selection, a Triple Threat Park Free Agent Pack, 5x ’27: Series 1 Packs, and a 2-hour double-XP Coin for the game mode.
The Ultra Edition includes everything from the Deluxe Edition, along with an extra 35,000 VC, a Season 1 Pro Pass, Seasons 7-9 Pro Pass slated for release in Summer 2027, the Roses Oversize Hoodie in MyCAREER, and Premium MyTEAM Player Cards that include a guaranteed 98 OVR card and a guaranteed Invincible card.
“Victor Wembanyama, Caitlin Clark, and Derrick Rose each come from different worlds, but they share the same obsession that has altered the trajectory of the game,” said NBA 2K franchise SVP and general manager, Zak Armitage. “Wembanyama has broken the mold for what a big man can be and keeps breaking it. Clark is pulling up from the logo, not just redefining what range looks like, but the women’s game entirely. And Rose changed what it meant to be a point guard – explosive, physical, unstoppable – and when faced with setbacks, his hunger for the game is what brought him back. None of them have an off switch, and that same relentless drive is what defines NBA 2K27.”
Gameplay details for NBA 2K27, such as enhancements over its predecessor, will likely be unveiled as we get closer to its release.
In the meantime, check out our review of last year’s entry. We gave it a score of 8 out of 10 thanks to its smooth gameplay, beautiful visuals, and vast array of content. However, we also had plenty of complaints regarding the limited amount of content for game modes aside from MyCAREER, as well as its plethora of microtransactions.
The title ended up being quite successful for parent company Take-Two Interactive. CEO Strauss Zelnick recently pointed to the title as a big reason behind the company’s positive cash flow, which in turn further opened up possibilities of mergers and acquisitions down the line. “Each of our labels exceeded our initial expectations – NBA 2K delivered record net bookings and recurrent consumer spending,” said Zelnick.
