Atari, along with developer Headless Chicken Games, has unveiled a new single-screen racing game that harkens back to classic top-down racing games of the past. Titled NeoSprint, the game is set for release on PC and consoles, and will be out in Summer 2024. Check out the trailer below.

NeoSprint hopes to tap into the classic single-screen racing game format that could originally be played in the Sprint series arcade machines back in the 1970s. Along with being a callback to older games, NeoSprint also features a host of modern gameplay features, including fancy modern 3D visuals, upgradable cars, a track builder, and online leaderboards.

Being a racing game, NeoSprint also supports multiplayer. Sadly, however, the multiplayer is limited to local only, where up to 8 players can race each other in the game’s many tracks. For single-player fans, NeoSprint also has a Campaign Mode where you will get to compete across multiple Racing Cups with increasingly difficult tracks.

At launch, NeoSprint will feature 9 car types, ranging from muscle cars to sports cars, with each type having its own ratings for speed, acceleration and handling.

While the game is finally making its way on to PC and consoles, interestingly, NeoSprint has been available as an early access title on the Atari VCS console.
