New Super Mario Bros U Modes and Features Detailed

Nab the Nabbit, take the road less travelled, boost block to success and much much more.

Nintendo’s upcoming platforming masterpiece Super Mario Bros U, which we would be shocked to not see Penelope Cruz endorse in the coming months (it’s a long story), has just received a wealth of new information concerning it’s features and modes.

For one, there’s the Challenge Mode wherein players complete special objectives. There’s nothing more than bragging rights involved but it’s cool to experience the title in new ways, such as running a stage without collecting any coins or touching the ground. This is accentuated with four challenge categories like Time Attack, Coin Collection, 1-Up Rally and Special. Boost Mode challenges are meant for two players, one operating the Wii U Gamepad and the other using a WiiMote.

Coin Battle is a coin collecting competition for four players, with the fifth placing boost blocks and rearranging coin layouts via the Gamepad. Interestingly, there will be a World Map akin to Super Mario World, where you traverse stages and explore hidden shortcuts and alternate routes. It’s an awesome nod, and helps bring some non-linearity to the single-player

Finally, there’s the Nabbit. Perhaps a homage to the rabbit from Super Mario 64, he’ll appear over a course on the world map and must be caught quickly. Doing so will net players a P-Acorn, for endlessly flying across a stage.

New Super Mario Bros U is shaping up nicely and will ship out on November 18th in North America and November 30th in UK.
