New Thief Trailer Introduces Us To Its Setting

New footage looks intriguing.

Eidos Monstreal’s upcoming reboot of its classic Thief franchise has drawn a fair bit of ire and controversy due to some of its design decisions, which alienate the core fanbase of the older games, and which go against the spirit of the franchise too. Nonetheless, these are the same developers who so successfully modernized Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, and Hitman, so I think they’re entitled to a little bit of benefit of the doubt here.

Especially since this new trailer doesn’t look half bad. Granted, it doesn’t actually show us anything of the game at all, instead trying to establish the tone, setting, and then protagonist of the game via a narration over some stylized footage, but it does set up a game that could be potentially interesting. We’d just have to wait and see.

And we won’t have to wait that long either: Thief launches February 28, 2014. Stay tuned for more coverage.
