Next Mass Effect Will “Maintain the Mature Tone of the Original Trilogy”

Mass Effect 4

Reviews have dropped for Dragon Age: The Veilguard ahead of its upcoming release, and the BioWare RPG has received praise for everything from its cast of characters to its new combat system and more- though if there’s one aspect of the game in particular that has been at least somewhat divisive (since the game was first revealed, in fact), it’s its lighter, less gritty tone compared to previous Dragon Age game. That, however, is not the direction the next Mass Effect will be taking.

The same has been confirmed by Michael Gamble, project director on the next Mass Effect, which is currently in early development at BioWare. Taking to Twitter, Gamble assured that the sci-fi RPG will retain the more mature tone of the series’ original outings, which means fans need not be worried about a tonal shift in the future.

“Regarding tone questions: Mass Effect will maintain the mature tone of the original trilogy,” Gamble wrote. “This is all I’m gonna say for now.”

Gamble also confirmed on Twitter that the next Mass Effect will continue to employ a photorealistic art style, rather than adopting the stylized look of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Read more on that through here.

BioWare confirmed in August last year that the next Mass Effect was still in pre-production, and reports earlier in the year claimed that that was still the case. With Dragon Age now out, the studio will presumably shift its full focus to the sci-fi RPG next, but reports have claimed that it won’t be out until 2028 or 2029
