As job listings had previously indicated, new game in the Subnautica series is indeed in development. Krafton, the parent company of Subnautica developer Unknown Worlds, recently confirmed that the studio is working on a third instalment in the survival series. In the wake of that confirmation, Unknown Worlds has also provided further details.
For starters, unsurprisingly, the developer has confirmed that upon its initial release, Subnautica 3 (or whatever they end up calling it) will be available in early acess, just as the original Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero were. Unknown Worlds has also said that though it isn’t ready to share details on the game itself just yet, it’ll have more to say about its early access release plans sometime in 2024.
“While we’re not quite ready to surface more info, keep watching this space,” the developer wrote. “We’ll share more about our early access plans in 2024.”
The next Subnautica game is currently targeting release sometime in the first half of 2025. There’s no word yet on how long it’ll remain in early access, or what platforms it will be available on.
