NieR Automata is no longer a PlayStation 4 exclusive. Square Enix’s successor to their cult hit NieR, the Platinum Games developed NieR Automata, had always been announced as a PS4 exclusive- no version of the game for other systems had been discussed. However, much like Platinum Games’ own former Xbox One exclusive Scalebound, it looks like NieR is jumping ship from console exclusivity, and launching on PC too.
Square Enix confirmed this news today in an IGN stream (via NeoGAF), also reiterating that the game is due to launch on both platforms simultaneously, in early 2017. This probably means that we can expect to go hands on with the game in the first three or so months of the year, though naturally, that’s just our interpretation of an otherwise rather ambiguously specified release date.
NieR Automata marks the latest major Japanese game to jump ship to PC- Japanese companies have famously been averse to putting their titles on PC, but that has been changing this generation. Let’s hope that the trend continues- Persona 5 on PC next, please?
