Nintendo President Addresses “Weak” Launch Lineup Claims

Tatsumi Kimishima says providing "new titles regularly" is important.

Even with all the buzz around the Nintendo Switch, one of the bigger criticisms that many can agree on is the launch line-up. Aside from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, many of Switch’s launch titles are either ports or party games like 1-2 Switch and ARMS. The lack of a bundled game doesn’t help matters.

Nintendo isn’t oblivious to those criticisms though. President Tatsumi Kimishima stated during the company’s earnings briefing that, “Some of those who have seen this lineup have expressed the opinion that the launch lineup is weak.

“Our thinking in arranging the 2017 software lineup is that it is important to continue to provide new titles regularly without long gaps. This encourages consumers to continue actively playing the system, maintains buzz, and spurs continued sales momentum for Nintendo Switch.”

That’s all well and good but it’s not exactly an approach that’s helped Nintendo in the past (see the Wii U). We’ll find out if history repeats itself when the Switch launches on March 3rd.
