In light of high demand for the Nintendo Switch, the company will be doubling the number of units produced. This is according to the Wall Street Journal (via Games Industry International) who spoke to “people briefed on the plans.”
Apparently the plan was to manufacture 8 million consoles by March 2018 end. However, due to the console selling out very quickly, Nintendo is now planning on manufacturing “at least” 16 million consoles by that period.
Nintendo said it was on track to sell 2 million units by March end and will go on to sell 10 million units in the next year. Thus far, the Switch and its launch title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are sold out at most major retailers.
The positive critical reception further boosted Zelda’s reputation though the Switch has faced complaints of dead pixels, JoyCon sync issues and whatnot.
How are you finding the Switch so far? Do you think Nintendo can hit 10 million units sold into 2018? Let us know in the comments.
