It seems that in spite of all odds, the Nintendo Switch may have ended up being the highest selling console in some of the biggest video game markets around the world. We’ve already reported on how the Switch was the highest selling system of the year in Japan, but apparently, it also got those honours in two other important markets.
Firstly, France. As Le Figaro reports, the Switch was the highest selling console in the country for 2018. As for the US, while NPD numbers for December 2018 may not be due for another few hours to the larger public, subscribers have had them since yesterday. Preliminary NPD reports, including one made by Direct Feed Games on Twitter, are indicating that the Switch was the highest selling console of 2018 in the United States too (and also that it outsold the PS4 and Xbox One combined in the US in December).
It seems then that the Switch may end 2018 as the highest selling console around the world. While the PS4 did sell more than Switch in the UK, on the whole, the PS4 has a hell of a difference to make up for if it wants to catch up to Nintendo’s hybrid in 2019.
Preliminary NPD sales data indicates:
– Nintendo Switch is best selling hardware of 2018
– Nintendo Switch sets new sales record in Dec. for this gen
– Nintendo Switch outsold competition (PS4 + Xbox One) combined in Dec.
The full December NPD report will be out tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/GOrMEywxU5— Direct-Feed Games (@DirectFeedGames) January 22, 2019
