One of the aspects that got praised from the original Nioh was its combat system. While being a “Souls-like” in several ways, it had a much more robust combat system than those types of games generally have. Today, we get a look at that combat system in the sequel Nioh 2, both the things familiar as well as some new tricks to battle the supernatural.

The first set of videos came via the game’s official Japanese Twitter. Here we see the player using an axe both off-hand to overwhelm the enemy and then as a throwing weapon. The game includes the two normal and two fast attacks just like the original.

For the rest of the videos, you can check out the game’s website through here. Here we see the return of stances, stamina and status effects. On the new side, it details the new Yokai form and how you can utilize that in battle, as well as powerful finishers on downed opponents.

Nioh 2 will release sometime in early 2020 for PlayStation 4. These videos are a great primer for the upcoming beta, which begins on November 1st.
