Nioh 4K Trailer Highlights Samurais and Villains

William will have his hands full.

Koei Tecmo’s Nioh will be out next week and there’s a fair bit of hype around it given its pedigree (its developer, Team Ninja, is responsible for the Ninja Gaiden series).

The Dark Souls-style gameplay is also intriguing but what separates Nioh from that hardcore series is its cinematic story. There’s a clearly identified villain here and a purpose for protagonist William Adams. Check out the latest trailer below for more.

Nioh takes place in Feudal Japan at the dawn of the 17th century and sees Western samurai William battling yokai aka monsters amidst escalating strife in the war-torn country. There’s a fair bit of challenge here – the developer described the difficulty as “masocore” and meant for the most hardcore of players just like Dark Souls. However, there are also looting aspects like Diablo, weapon switching, spirits and much more to make it stand out.

Nioh is out on February 7th for PS4. Will you be picking it up? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
