Nioh Receiving Free PvP Mode in Post-Launch Update

Arena mode or open world? Yet to be confirmed.

Team Ninja’s Nioh shares a lot in common with Dark Souls and Bloodborne (along with Diablo and other titles as clarified here) and while you can summon players to fight their AI avatars, there’s no proper PvP mode in the game.

However, that will be remedied after launch. Team Ninja told Gamereactor (translation via NeoGAF) that PvP would be coming in a free update after Nioh’s launch. It will be interesting to see whether this means a dedicated arena for battles that players can matchmake for a la Ashes of Ariandel or a more open world PvP experience that the Souls series is usually known for.

For PvE fans, Nioh promises to be brutal and merciless with its difficult. Director Fumihiko Yasuda even went so far as to describe it as “Masocore” or a combination of “masochistic” and “hardcore” gameplay that will test your patience.

Nioh arrives on February 9th for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. Will you be picking it up? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
