Pokemon GO and especially No Man’s Sky may have disappointed the legions of fans that they spawned in their wake, but they were undeniably successful games. How successful? Well, VentureBeat are reporting that No Man’s Sky was the second highest grossing game on consoles digitally for the month of August, behind only Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. The total amount of money generated from digital revenue in August was a jaw dropping £4.7 billion.

As for Pokemon GO, VentureBeat estimates that the game is responsible for pushing the already lucrative mobile gaming market to the stunning figure of £2.34 billion. Unlike No Man’s SkyPokemon GO continues to make money hand over fist, so its impact on the market is likely to be more permanent than No Man’s Sky more ephemeral contribution.

No Man’s Sky launched in August on PS4 and PC. Pokemon GO launched in July on iOS and Android phones.
