Starry Studio’s survival sandbox shooter Once Human is now available on PC and off to a strong start on Steam. It saw 131,894 concurrent players at this time of writing, though its overall rating is “Mixed”, with 59 percent of the 8,959 user reviews positive.
Initial complaints revolved around the lack of options to create multiple characters, making it impossible to join friends on other servers. While the developer has quickly fixed the same, there are concerns surrounding the Terms of Service and the NetEase Launcher. Starry Studio has since released a statement noting it takes users’ data privacy “very seriously.” “We would only use personal data if we have a legitimate legal basis, such as providing requested services or acting with your expressed consent.
“We will only use your data lawfully and reasonably and in accordance with local legal compliance requirements while practising data privacy principles such as data minimization, purpose limitation, and transparency. We appreciate and welcome any feedback from our players to help us improve.” As for the NetEase Launcher, those on Steam and Epic Games Store won’t have to download it to play.
Once Human occurs in a post-apocalyptic future where a mysterious alien substance called Stardust has mutated all life. Meta-Humans are the only ones who can survive, though they still have to satisfy needs like hunger and thirst (which is all the more difficult when contaminated food and water affect Sanity).
Alongside various blueprints for crafting weapons, players can build houses, team up with other factions or embark on missions to learn more about the Stardust. Check out our feature for more details.
