Outlast 2

Red Barrels wasted no time in rustling controversy with its first teaser for Outlast 2, the sequel to the horrifying first person adventure that released in 2014. A new screenshot for the game has released though it’s hard to know whether it represents the ability to wield weapons, a new enemy or something else entirely.

Studio co-founder Philippe Morin also spoke a bit about development on the original game to Polygon and how things are different this time around. “We’re in full control of what we ship and when we ship it. For the first Outlast, we were in a rush to release the game before running out of money. Because more than 3.5 million players have played the first game, we’re now in a position to make decisions based on our ambitions.”

Outlast 2 is scheduled to release in Fall 2016 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Will it live up to the original’s level of horror or compete with hallucinogenic experiences like Layers of Fear? We’ll find out later this year.
