Overwatch Summer Games

Overwatch’s sixth season of Competitive Play is set to end on October 28th. In the midst of big-name games like Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Super Mario Odyssey and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus releasing this week, it’s probably minor news. Then again, given the train-wreck that Competitive Play has become, it’s probably minor for different reasons.

Regardless, as per the official Twitter for the game, Season 6 concludes at 5 PM PT on October 28th or 12 AM UTC on October 29th. Several changes have been made to the competitive ladder with seasons only lasting two months instead of three. Competitive Points earned from ranks have been reduced as a result, which means you’ll be spending more time in a year playing those placement matches that you hate and which are ultimately useless.

It will be interesting to see what changes Blizzard makes to Competitive Play in Season 7, especially with all the buffs and nerfs that Mercy has undergone. The so-called “Moth Meta” is still strong especially among professional players but things, as always, could change.
