Overwatch

Much discussion has been had and made about Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch and the netcode it employs, so much so that the developer released an extensive video update with lead engineer Tim Ford and senior engineer Philip Orwig about the same.

The duo cover the reason netcode hasn’t been discussed till now, the core values regarding netcode, techniques used to improve responsiveness and to fulfill its goal to “favour the shooter”. Players can also look forward to changes based on player feedback along with changes to custom games and the ability to increase their rate to 60 Hz.

Overwatch is currently in closed beta for PC but will be heading into open beta across PS4, Xbox One and PC on May 5th to 9th. Pre-ordering will grant you access from May 3rd onwards with the full game out on May 24th. What are your thoughts on the principles behind the game’s netcode? Let us know in the comments.
