Overwatch Director Responds to Loot Box Criticism

Jeff Kaplan notes that the team is "listening" to fans.

Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch has been under a bit of fire lately due to the recent Anniversary Event. This is because the number of Legendary skins, which cost 3000 Credits each, is 11 and the much-anticipated dance emotes are event-exclusive. Given the low drop rate of Legendary items in Loot Boxes, the meager amount of currency offered by duplicates and the event only lasting three weeks, consumers have started to voice their distaste over the Loot Box system.

Director Jeff Kaplan responded to this on the official forums, stating that, “I just wanted to acknowledge that we’ve been following the threads about the loot box rewards as they pertain to the anniversary events, other events and loot boxes in general.

“The feedback and suggestions have been helpful to us. We had a really great discussion yesterday about the feedback we’ve been hearing this week. While I don’t have any immediate action items to report, I thought it was important for you to know that we are listening.”

He then asked for players to continue their discussion about the cosmetic items and Loot Boxes. Which doesn’t sound like much of a resolution but at least it was acknowledged as an issue.
