After debuting an extended trailer for Phantom Blade Zero (featuring film legend Donnie Yen), S-Game founder Qiwei Liang announced that a dedicated State of Play will take place on August 17th. Broadcasting at 7 PM PT, it promises to delve even deeper into the game.

“What you saw in the pre-order trailer is only the beginning. Battling enemies atop a speeding wagon and crossing blades with former comrades like The Hunt are just the opening moments of Soul’s journey,” he said. Liang noted that State of Play would feature “never-before-seen characters central to our story” and “how expressive players can be with their individual builds.”

“We’re looking forward to finally sharing more of what we’ve been working on.”

With the blacksmith, Forge, and many more weapons showcased in the new trailer, it’s possible that we could finally learn more about the progression. The mention of “builds” also indicates that players can specialize in different weapon types, thus leaning into a specific playstyle. Hopefully we’ll see more of the exploration – S-Game has teased locations like Pang Town and discussed the side content, but we’ve yet to really delve into anything.

Phantom Blade Zero launches on October 29th for $59.99 on PC and as a 12-month console exclusive on PS5. The main story revolves around Soul, a former assassin of The Order who’s wrongfully accused of slaying the founder. With a limited time to live, he sets out on his own journey, though it’s unclear if he’s looking to clear his name.

Though it takes about 20 to 30 hours to complete, players will apparently see 30 percent of the total experience on the first playthrough. Stay tuned for more details and updates when State of Play rolls around.
