Phil Spencer Discusses Plans For Next Xbox: ‘I Think Framerate Is An Area Where Consoles Can Do More’

"When you look at the balance between CPU and GPU in today’s consoles, it’s a little bit out of whack relative to what’s on the PC side."

One of the biggest downsides to gaming on consoles can be that games are sometimes locked to 30 fps. This is certainly a glaring issue, especially given that the PC is able to much more in terms of graphics and performance. The next generation of Xbox will probably release  some time in  2020, and Xbox Head Phil Spencer discussed what the main points of focus will be for the next Xbox.

Speaking to GiantBomb in an interview, Spencer stated, “We’re pretty open about some of the stuff…If you watch what we’re doing now with the Xbox One consoles right now, we’ve introduced variable refresh rate, we’ve added high frame rate capability. I think frame rate is an area where consoles can do more, just in general. When you look at the balance between CPU and GPU in today’s consoles, it’s a little bit out of whack relative to what’s on the PC side.”

This is certainly some exciting news since players will now be able to enjoy the next generation of games at a higher framerate, provided team Xbox is doing what Phil hinted at. If the next generation of games will be able to run at 60 fps on the next Xbox, then it’s definitely something to look forward to. It remains to be seen though if this will make the next generation of consoles a little too expensive, or if it will remain a feasible way to play games.
