Phil Spencer On What Is Coming Next After Xbox Scorpio: ‘I Don’t Know What It Is Yet!’

"We’ve got no set timeline," says Spencer.

While Microsoft has seen bigger and better results for the Xbox One in the past year, Phil Spencer knows there’s still ways to go before it catches up with Sony and the PS4. Spencer has already gone on record as saying part of the recent success is due to the fact that he and his team are not, in fact, attempting to counter Sony.

Instead, Spencer is attempting to simply make his company and his products more attractive to the public.  Spencer recently sat down with Kotaku and explained the long-term plans are not to release a console every year and they are not even sure what is coming after Scorpio.

“We’ve got no set timeline on when we need to sell you the next console after Scorpio, we look and say, are there important consumer features? We looked at 4k TVs, we could see the uptake in 4K. People want to play at higher resolutions, higher frame rates — but the next thing after that? I don’t know what it is yet! I don’t need to give you a reason to buy a new console every year. In fact, I don’t actually want to!”

The Xbox Scorpio is the latest attempt to get in more customers but it has also made some worried that Microsoft is going to be releasing a console every year. Considering they are not cheap (at least on launch), that’s quite taxing on the gaming public. We will see what happens in the coming years when the Scorpio launches in late 2017.
