PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Will Have a System of Underground Tunnels in New Map

This sounds exciting!

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

The upcoming map for Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, Codenamed Savage 4×4 (after the planned 4×4 square kilometer map size) is apparently going to switch things up in a big way. The map will apparently have a fully fleshed out system of underground tunnels playable and accessible by players, inspied by a real life system of tunnels in Thailand.

Having a system of tunnels like this can be game changing- it introduces, effectively, two avenues for battle and survival at any given time, increases the play area by doubling it, and adds more strategic opportunities to hide, escape, ambush, and take cover. Theoretically, this could induce a paradigm shift in battle royale game design, if it is pulled off well.

The map won’t be available in release for a while, but PUBG Corp is promising more rounds of testing before then. Either way, it sounds like they are committed to not just resting on their laurels, and to trying new things.
