2010 is almost coming to an end and with that it’s time for us to guide you on what you should buy this holiday season. It’s been a great year for the PlayStation 3 with the announcement of HD Remakes, 3D Support and the release of the PlayStation Move. There have been some superb games, both in the exclusive and the multiplatform department. Through this guide we try and suggest where you should be investing your hard earned money.
GAMES
Heavy Rain
“How far are you going to go to save someone you love?” is the major theme behind Quantic Dream’s interactive cinema thriller. Heavy Rain not only answers that but also answers the question that: “Can games better what movies can do? “ The answer is a resounding yes. Heavy Rain is the pinnacle of storytelling for the fact that you are scripting your own stories based on the decisions you take during the course of the game. Ethan Mars, an architect, lost his elder, 10 year old son due to a tragic accident two years ago, which totally changed his life. He is depressed and his only hope for living is his younger son, Shaun. But unfortunately he gets kidnapped by the Origami Killer, a psychopath who drowns his victims and places an orchid on their chest and an origami in their hands after they breathe their last.
Sports Champion
Sports Champions uses the move technology so well and offers enough variety in the sports present to be almost everyone’s cup of tea. With so much fun to be had and an excellent pricing strategy it is very hard not to recommend Sports Champions. In fact I would probably go as far as saying that it is an essential purchase to get the full enjoyment out of your PS Move this Holiday.
Dead Nation
Dead Nation is a pretty amazing title and that too at pretty neat price at $14.99. It’s easily the best arcade experience I have had for the year on my PlayStation 3. If you think zombie slaughtering was fun than Dead Nation makes zombie slaughtering an addiction! If you are a zombie lover and a killer too, than you should not look beyond Dead Nation.
Gran Turismo 5
Gran Turismo 5, a game that has seen a mammoth development time of 5 years and innumerable delays. When I started playing the game I was more nervous than excited since being a fan of the franchise I was wondering whether Gran Turismo 5 can live up to all the promises, expectations and hype that it had built over these last few years. And I am very glad to report that Gran Turismo 5 is well worth the wait. Developed by the highly talented development team at Polyphony Digital, Gran Turismo 5 might easily be the best racer on the PlayStation 3 yet. Yes it’s not the perfect racer that we were all hoping for, it has its own share of issues, but the amount of content that is on offer here, can’t be missed by any PlayStation 3 owner out there.
Assassins Creed Brotherhood
Because every Assassin’s Creed game has to end with a cliffhanger we are graced this winter tide with the latest instalment in Ubisoft’s open world stealth ‘em up franchise. Brotherhood adds new moves and locations to the single player experience, as well a whole new multiplayer experience that fits in well with the feel of the series. Whilst it fails to be the Assassin’s Creed 3 some were expecting, Brotherhood refines the single player formula to near perfection and also adds a clever and deep multiplayer experience.
Mod Nation Racers
Cuddle up with your favourite author and get ready to wait as Mod Nation Racers has some of the longest loading screen I have ever sat through. The actual load time isn’t all that bad but you will see it a lot. If you don’t know what Mod Nation Racers is; it is a Mario Kart style racer cross bred with Little Big Planet. Nearly everything in the MNR world is customizable and the overall game play is satisfying. The online community is outstandingly friendly and the developers obviously put in the time and money for a great game.
