Will you buy a PS4?

Once I thought that console gaming in Japan would be saved by the PS4, but that now looks increasingly unlikely (that mantle, instead, has been passed to the upcoming Nintendo Switch, in my estimation). But that won’t stop Sony from trying to push the new console for all it’s worth in the Land of the Rising Sun.

This series of new commercials for the system in Japan are trying to convince Japanese buyers, who have famously been largely apathetic towards Sony’s console, into buying the system. To do so, the advertisements rattle off upcoming PS4 exclusive games likely to appeal to the Japanese buyer, including Yakuza 6, Hot Shots Golf, Gran Turismo Sport, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and Dragon Quest 11.

Whether or not these ads end up doing anything for the console’s fortunes in the country remains to be seen, but t the very least, they reinforce the fact that the PS4 has really seen a stellar upturn in console support by Japanese third parties.
