It looks like Sony will be propping up PlayStation Now as its own alternative to Microsoft’s Game Pass pretty soon. As has been rumored for a while, it sounds like the ability to download games on PS Now directly to the console may be coming to the service come this September.
This presumably raises a lot of questions- how long can you play those games? Will all games support this functionality, including PS3 games, which cannot natively run or be emulated on PS4? Speaking with Kotaku UK, an industry source mentioned that the functionality will be limited to PS4 games, and that downloaded games will function similarly to PS Plus games- you can play them for as long as you maintain a subscription.
Assuming this turns out to be true, this could be a big win for Sony. PlayStation Now has a larger catalog than Game Pass, and could instantly be seized upon as better value by customers. Personally, it would also lead to me subscribing to the service at last.
