2024 has kicked off, and much like last year, Microsoft is going to be the first company to have a major event with its Xbox Developer Direct, which is set for January 18. It’s safe to assume that Sony and Nintendo also have plans in place, but when exactly will we be hearing more about those plans and what those companies have in store for the coming months?

Speaking during a recent episode of Gian Bomb podcast Giant Bombcast, journalist Jeff Grubb has said that Sony does indeed have a State of Play presentation in the works. When exactly it will happen is up in the air right now, though he does say it’s likely scheduled for sometime in “the next few weeks”. Grubb also didn’t have details to share on what the presentation will showcase, though he did point out that State of Play showcases tend to have a spotty record in terms of how well they land, so there’s a chance that this upcoming one ends up disappointing as well.

Of course, though the PS5 does have a number of major releases lined up for the early months of 2024 – from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Dragon’s Dogma 2 to Persona 3 Reload and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, among many others – there isn’t as much clarity on what to expect from the latter months of the year. Will we be getting more details on that front anytime soon? Hopefully, we’ll get more updates in the coming days and weeks, so stay tuned.
