PlayStation VR

Sony announced the final release date for the PlayStation VR on stage at their E3 conference today, confirming that it will be launching in the United States on October 13, for its previously announced price of $399 (though a $499 version bundled with the necessary PS Camera and PS Move will also be available on the market).

Shawn Layden spoke of how this year marks an inflection point for the burgeoning VR format, noting that the PS4 is the only system on the market that mixes a vast audience base with enough processing power to make mass market VR possible. And certainly, if VR is to take off in the mainstream, then of the existing products on the market, the PlayStation VR is its best bet.

Sony also spoke about the kinds of AAA game experiences that players can expect on the PSVR- and it sounds like we’ll be getting some AAA stuff to go along with the smaller, experimental stuff that has already been announced, too. All in all, it looks like the PSVR is getting a hell of a push- let’s see if it lives up to the billing.
