PlayStation VR Pre-Orders Have Surpassed Sony’s Expectations

"I would say that the early pre-orders has surpassed our initial expectations."

The PlayStation VR is widely expected to be the most successful VR solution of the three high end ones due to hit the market, but I don’t think anyone was expected to be as successful as this- according to Sony, pre-orders for the headset are outpacing all of their expectations.

“The news overnight on pre-orders is extremely encouraging, but I’d be very wary about extrapolating how we’ll do through to launch based on less than 24 hours,” PlayStation Europe’s Jim Ryan told MCV regarding the performance of the headset. “I would say that the early pre-orders has surpassed our initial expectations. So that suggests demand, and therefore day one, might be quite significant.”

Sony has stated multiple times that it expects that the PlayStation VR will be like an all new system launch for them- we know they are planning to support it with the same kind of first and third party support, as well as marketing, that a new PlayStation system gets- but it looks like it will also be getting the kind of sales that a PlayStation system usually gets too. Sony is doubtless pretty excited about that.
