The Plex video viewing and streaming app has been available on Xbox platforms for quite a while, but it has been conspicuous by its absence on PlayStation; well, now the app is finally available on both, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, and it works pretty much identically to the Xbox or Vizio TV apps. You can see a screenshot of what it looks like above.
So, yeah. Pretty standard stuff. Right now the app is available only in European and Asian markets, though of course, it will launch in the US (and other markets) soon, although they are not ready to commit to any sort of a date yet.
The exact same limitations apply with the PS3 and PS4 Plex app as with the Xbox 360 and Xbox One app- Plex Pass only, video only, library only. Support for music, photos and channels will follow, as will the ability for non-Plex Pass users to purchase the app.
So, that adds another feather in PlayStation’s multimedia functionality cap… I think.
