Pokemon Black/White Will Feature Only New Pokemon

The more I hear about Pokemon Black and White, the more my enthusiasm for the games is dampened. The fifth instalment in the bestselling RPG series is all set for a Japan release next month, with an international release following early next year. It is also supposed to be a ‘reboot’ of the Pokemon series, introducing many new concepts, and adding a new twist on the existing ones.

It has now been confirmed that the games will feature only the new monsters that are being introduced in this game, until players are through with the harrowing story mode. The developer explained the rationale behind this on his blog, stating that he wants it to be a fresh experience, full of the sense of discovering something new, like how Pokemon Red/Blue were at their time.

On my part, I’m officially disenchanted. The last Pokemon games to attempt a reboot- Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire- which ALSO sought to distance themselves from existing games in the series by not including most of the existing Pokemon- are widely regarded as the worst games in the series. It looks like Black and White are all set to follow in those footsteps.

We’ll have more for you soon enough, including a review for the games, as and when it becomes available.
