Pokemon GO Generated A Staggering $950 Million In Revenue In 2016

The game ends the year on a high note.

Pokemon GO stands as the most successful mobile game of all time- but just how successful it was is often lost on some people, given that its insane, world changing popularity cooled down a bit over the last few months. However, in a recent report, Mobile market researcher App Annie revealed that Pokemon GO ended 2016 on a triumphant high.

Pokemon GO was the most downloaded app of 2016, ahead of competition Clash Royale and Monster Strike, in spite of launching months after both of those two, which were made available relatively earlier in the year. In terms of revenue, Pokemon GO ended 2016 in third place, behind both of those games- nonetheless, it managed to generate a jaw dropping $950 million in revenue worldwide.

The success of Pokemon GO itself didn’t help Nintendo much financially- but the halo effect around the Pokemon brand bled into boosting sales performance for Pokemon Sun/Moon, which became the highest selling games of last year, and the almost six year old Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo have to be happy with the result.
